JATIBONICU TAINO TRIBAL NATION RESOLUTION 124-8-00 PASSED

BY GRAND COUNCIL OF THE JATIBONICU TAINO TRIBAL NATION

Whereas, On August 8, 2000 the grand council of the Jatibonicu Taino Nation came to order to pass resolution 124-8-00, proclaiming our tribal nation's support on behalf of the United Native America and the effort is being led by yourself  and Ms. Kimberly Teehee and the American Indian Caucus in Washington, DC and the representatives Native American Indian tribal nations.

Whereas, the grand council and its Jatibonicu Taino People have resolved to supports the United Native America in its efforts for the declassification of Columbus Day as a federal holiday and to rename and establish a recognized day honoring the Native American Indian People of the United States and its US territories as a National Native American Day Holiday to be recognized as a federal holiday.

Whereas, the grand council has resolved to recognize Native American Day as a national holiday to be official celebrated by the Jatibonicu Taino Tribal Nation of Boriken, when it is passed by the United States Congress.

Whereas, it should be known and affirmed that the Jatibonicu Taino People of Boriken and its tribal bands have never recognize Columbus Day as a national holiday. This is due to the past genecidal atrocities committed against our people in the 1400 and 1500 hundreds by Columbus and the past Spanish colonial governments.

Respectfully,

Pedro Guanikeyu Torres Principal Chief, Jatibonicu Taino Tribal Nation

CC: Chief Maria Anani Jimenez, Chief Carlos Rodriguez, Chief Melodias Matias, Elder Jorge Guamoel Ramos, Admin. Dr. Shoshana Avirshon,  Admin. Ms. Arlene Torruellas, Admin.Mr. Peter Guaniel Torres, Ms. Carmen Rivera, Don Collins and the forum of the Jatibonicu Taino Nation.
